What are your expectations for tonight’s show?
My expectations are sky-high. Given the extensive buzz surrounding the event, I am confident that tonight’s gathering of Afenmai enthusiasts and music lovers in Surulere, Lagos, will be electric. The beauty of Afenmai music lies in its universal appeal, people from all walks of life can’t get enough of it! I am also impressed by the organizers’ attention to detail, ensuring that every aspect of the show is meticulously planned to delight the music enthusiasts in attendance. My team, including my manager, and I are primed and ready to deliver an unforgettable performance that will leave the audience in awe.

What sparked your passion for music and production at just 16?
For me, it’s all about the rhythm and vibe. I get inspired by captivating melodies and infectious beats that stir my creativity. Whenever I immerse myself in good music, I am triggered to create something even more amazing. It’s like a domino effect, great beats fuel my passion, and my passion fuels my music.
What genres of music do you typically work with?
As an artist, I am versatile and enjoy exploring various genres. However, I draw the line at trap music because, it’s not really my vibe (laughs). As an African artist, my forte lies in crafting infectious rhythms in Highlife, Afrobeat, and Afropop, with a dash of R&B and a pinch of Rock music. I am particularly fond of Rock’s energetic and rebellious spirit and it adds an exciting edge to my sound.

How do you plan to foster relationships with the artists under your label?
As a visionary who always dreamed of owning a label, I am passionate about creating a collaborative and innovative space where talented artists can thrive. My approach is centered around building a strong, goal-oriented bond with my artists, where we work together as a cohesive family unit. We share laughs, push creative boundaries, and reap the rewards of our collective success. It’s a business built on mutual respect, trust, and a shared passion for music.

What’s your discography like, and how have your fans responded to your music?
I have released two EPs titled ‘A Good Beginning’ and ‘No Hope Lost’ which have been making waves, along with several singles that have been resonating with music lovers. Tracks like ‘Achieve My Goal’, ‘No Lie’, ‘Americana’, ‘Obianuju’, “Leave You Run”, and Ain’t Gat No Friend” have been streaming smoothly on platforms like Apple Music and Audiomack, with impressive downloads and streams. It’s truly humbling to see people connect with my sound. I have also had the opportunity to collaborate with my signee on a hit ‘Pyrate’. With Dollar Music Entertainment (DME), we have been creating music that inspires since 2017, and I am grateful for the support.
Who inspires you the most?
My ultimate role models are my parents. My dad is a musical icon, his discipline, calm creativity, and confident stage presence inspire me daily. He is more than just a parent; he is a mentor who has shaped my artistic vision. My mom, on the other hand, is a powerhouse who has propelled the careers of top artists like Dbang, Nice, P-Square, and even my dad, and many young talents. Her expertise and passion for nurturing talent are qualities I admire and aspire to. Together, they have been my pillars of strength and inspiration.
How did you balance your Civil Engineering studies with your music career?
For me, education has always been the top priority, and my mom, also my manager, ensured I stayed focused (laughs). I’d often put my music commitments on hold during exam periods, canceling studio sessions and stage shows to concentrate on my studies. But when I had the chance to record, I’d make the most of it, sometimes laying down four tracks in a single day.

As the saying goes, ‘there is a time for everything’, so I’d dedicate myself to academics during the semester and unleash my creativity during holidays. My mom’s support was instrumental in maintaining this balance, and I was able to thrive in both worlds.
What words of wisdom would you share with fellow artists in the entertainment industry?
To make a lasting impact, focus on crafting music with substance, soul, and infectious rhythms. Stay true to your artistry and let your passion be the driving force behind your creativity. When you’re genuinely invested in your craft, it shines through, so keep pursuing your dreams with unwavering dedication and enthusiasm.
