I am elated to celebrate success, man’s accomplishments as well as the healthy lifestyle of extraordinary personalities both in Nigeria and the diaspora on the Monthly Biography with Lois Adams; and it is my greatest desire that these accomplishments and life’s lessons should be published in order to encourage a sane, responsible and dependable society.
In this edition, we will be looking at the life and achievements of our beautiful and smart Olubukola who hails from Oyo State, born in to the family of late Ezekiel Makinde Olaoye and Mrs. Tunbosun Theresa Olaoye and married to Engineer Banji Felix Ayoola of Osun State.
She attended Army Children Primary School Iwo Road, Ibadan, St. Teresa’s College Oke, Ado, Ibadan, Ordinary National Diploma at the Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo and further obtained her Bachelor Degree in Science in Business Administration at the University of Lagos. Olubukola is enthusiastic about what she does, a beauty guru who has worked hard to stand out in the industry, following the values that has been instilled in her overtime.
In this interview, Olubukola, a lady who at each opportunity celebrates her root for raising her to become the responsible and independent woman that she is, further uncovered essential issues in administration, commerce and mentorship. She also talked about dealing with parenting, admirers as well as critiques.
Below are excerpts from the meeting which will inspire you:
IT IS A GOOD THING THAT YOU MARKED YOUR BIRTHDAY EARLIER THIS MONTH, WHAT WERE YOU THANKFUL FOR AS YOU CELEBRATED?
Response: Thank you Lois Adams for finding me worthy among other great personalities to be celebrated. I am so honoured for this rare privilege. My birthday is 9th of June and this year’s birthday was fantastic, I must confess. I am most grateful to God Almighty who moulded me to be the woman I am today and to my loving husband who found me as a better choice out of all Ladies out there to be his helpmate; I appreciate your care and love so much.
It is not by my doing or power that I celebrated another birthday, but by the Special Grace from God almighty. Also, to my loving daughters whom I am blessed with; for you all to call me your mother I am grateful. And to the special family that I was brought forth and nurtured to be the Woman I am today, most especially my late father of blessed Memory and a living Queen, my dear mother, I owe this opportunity to them.
AS A BEAUTIFUL AFRICAN LADY THAT YOU ARE, HOW DO YOU ACCOMMODATE AND HANDLE PERSISTENT ADMIRERS?
Response: I would not want to praise myself as whatever God created, he made perfectly. So I will go with the Word of God that Says; “We are beautifully and wonderfully made by God”. Dealing with the opposite sex was a bit difficult looking at the family background I came from, my parents were absolute disciplinarians.
I was instilled with serious fear of relationship with opposite sex but with the Grace of God and knowledge from our aged mothers giving us moral advise and teachings, it made it so easy for me to pick the rights from the wrongs.
HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH MEN THAT ARE STUBBORN AND RELENTLESS OR HAVE YOU EVER BEEN EMBARRASSED BY ONE?
Response: Hmmm!. It was a very difficult scenario. I was embarrassed because he went to the extent of kneeling down and sobbing for me to be his woman despite being married. Men could be funny and desperate at times, they can go the extra mile to get what they want. The Bible says, the fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom. With this in my heart I did not succumb.
AS A MOTHER, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST WAY TO RAISE KIDS, AND HOW DO YOU RAISE YOUR CHILDREN?
Response: As a Mother, you must be your child’s best friend. In our own past experiences we were not best friends to our parents but still the discipline they instilled in us helped us till today. I will advise that between teen to adolescent age, let the word of God be their best companion. At this age, lots of misconceptions and peer pressures affect their thinking. Get closer to them; let them have the courage and confidence to be free in talking with you anytime.
Most mothers have failed in this aspect, but we keep learning everyday to be better and best mothers to our children by studying their strength and weaknesses and never reject them during their down times.
Going further therefore, as a mother, endeavour to educate them of every positive and negative side of life, especially the repercussions thereafter for any wrong steps. God blessed me with female genders and I am very much at peace with them. Like our beliefs that without a male child, the family is not in order, I have super girls and I am proud of them anyway. My own Philosophy on this as per my blessings is what a Man can do, a woman can do it not only Better but Best.
I am raising my children with the fear of the Lord and also with the discipline I was inculcated from my parents. Beating a child is not discipline, but having a mother to daughter or son talk gives them more peace of mind and boldness to face any challenge that comes their way. Every child is a gift and equal before God. So there should be no discrimination between both genders. Never love a child more than the other. Let there be equal love shared among them. This will give you peace on the long run.
COMING TO THE CORE ATTRACTION OF BEING A FASHIONISTA, HOW DID YOU VENTURE INTO COSMETICS AND MAKEUP BUSINESS WITH A SWEDISH COMPANY?
Response: I would say being a fashionista is a family endowment; It runs in the family, from my mom to my aged grandparents; we love looking good, eating healthy, and living in clean environment. I first found my way into cosmetics business when I was looking for a business after being robbed off my hard earned money from bulk recharge cards business. I started with Hair sales, in addition with Cosmetics which came as a thought for an everyday sale.
I know ladies love to look good no matter how broke in cash they might be. This gave me the foresight to open a store that involves ladies. I found my way into Cosmetics and makeup business when I was in search for Product that can take care of my acne. Luckily for me I got introduced into Oriflame Cosmetics with Swedish Products. I purchased one of their Routine Set for face even-out (Optimals Even Out), infact I never regretted using that product as that started the transformation of my youthful look. I was dazed with the result I got. My long years acne look disappeared and since then I became a Consultant with the Company with so many down-lines with incredible earnings for life.
YOU SEEM TO BE A PASSIONATE ENTREPRENEUR, HOW DO YOU MENTOR NEWBIES?
Response: I mentor first timers based on the training I received from Oriflame. I have been under series of trainings on best way to prospect, how to turn a prospect to a brand partner with massive monthly earnings, giveaways, titles, travel opportunities, all expenses paid by the company and so on. I assist them also in placing their monthly orders as asked by the company to retain their membership policy. Mentoring is all about leadership. Any leader that failed in that area can never be a successful goal getter.
SO HOW HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO STAY CONSISTENT WITH THE COMPANY AND YOUR DOWN-LINES?
Response: I believe Rome was not built in a day. Consistency is the parameter to your long awaited success. I am consistent because I have witnessed the never expected success of co-brand Partners which can in turn be mine as well. Same belief and motivation is passed on to my down-lines.
SO HOW DO YOU COPE WITH THE STRESS OF ORDERS, PLACEMENTS FOR TEETHING DOWN-LINES?
Response: That is part of the role of a leader. A leader must be a servant to his followers. I want them to be successful in the business, so I should be able to help them in getting to the peak of success no matter how busy my schedule is. I prioritize one for another, as their failure would be my failure in the business. I help out because some are not literate on online business.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO ORGANIZE A FASHION-RELATED EVENT IN THE FUTURE?
Response: I have plans to own a Show-case of fashion Closet in the future. Plans are on-going.
WHAT FUTURE DO YOU PREDICT FOR COSMETICS BUSINESS IN NIGERIA?
Response: Cosmetics business can never be underestimated. It is the best out of all businesses in the world especially among Africans. Every house has Cosmetics wardrobe be it perfumes, body care, facial care, etc. Cosmetics are what an individual can never do away with.
WHAT ARE THE CORE HAZARDS IN THIS LINE OF WORK AND HAVE YOU EVER FELT YOU SHOULD QUIT FOR ANOTHER BUSINESS?
Response: In this line of Cosmetics business, you tend to loose nothing but rather benefit. The Company has all plans mapped out for next 20 years for every brand partner. This now depends on how serious or committed you are to the business. When talking about quitting, there is no business without its raining days or winter time. One just needs to brace up, find another modality to improve on the business and never quit.
The business is a one-on-one meeting with your customers. You do not need to have the products at hand before you sell. Accept payment from your customers, place their orders and send directly to your customer via Company Dispatch Medium. No hazard or risk taken in this business.
LASTLY, WHAT SECRET OF YOUR SUCCESS STORY DO YOU WANT TO OPENLY SHARE WITH MENTEES AND ANYONE INTERESTED IN BEAUTY-RELATED BUSINESS?
Response: There is no other secret to success rather than commitment, hard work, diligence and consistency. Create a mind-set of ‘I CAN’ always. It motivates a great deal to reaching a desired finish line or Success Ladder. Never give up on your dreams, take a bold step, act on it, and make it a reality to be seen.
