As the pre-season warm up kicks – off with the Manchester United team on tour in USA against LA Galaxy today, you can only get to be intrigued by the United team preparation with the latest signing of last seasons wonder boy from Everton Romero Lukaku.

The wonder boy with a hefty price tag of £75 million which could rise to £90 million based on ad-ons will inherit the number 9 jersey from Zlantan Ibrahimovic who is out of contract.

Lukaku who loves to play with the number 10 written on his jersey, as it signifies love for his dear mother whose birthday is on the 10 of the 10th month (October) has made a swift switch to the Number 9 jersey making him the 8th player among the likes of Brian Maclair, Andy Cole, Dimitar Berbatov, Louis Saha, Anthony  Martial, Radamel Falcao and Zlantan Ibrahimovic to wear the iconic since the introduction of numbers to jersey in 1993.

However, he has switched to number 9 this season after he seemed to have gotten the permission of Zlantan Ibrahimovic, the highest goal scorer for Manchester United last season stating that “I’m a striker and strikers wear number 9”.

Ibrahimovic who United is considering to offer a short term contract after his rehabilitation, might possibly take up the number 10 jersey left by the club legend Wayne Rooney who left this summer to his boyhood club Everton after a 13 years stint at Old Trafford.

However, Lukaku is deemed the messiah who will convert draws to wins at Old Trafford this season.

Will LUKAKU be the man to lift United to the glory this season when the season starts with a unique number 9? Only time will tell.
