Judges of the 2021 Edition of the just concluded ‘Chief Richard Lamai Competition’ were disturbingly disappointed that none of the entrants made 70 percent aggregate. However, one of the participants, Joshua Idogho, had the highest score, aggregating 66.3%, which was represented with green coloration of the name and score on the score sheet. This was contained in a document titled ‘Report of the Result for the 2021 Chief Richard Lamai Competition on the topic “Becoming a Professional in your Field”.
During the 2021 edition which doubled as the 2nd edition of competition, Public Speaking was a focus, participants were expected to send in a six minutes video with a maximum of 12 seconds extension discussing the topic above. Nine participants sent their video presentations on the topic ‘Becoming a Professional in your Field’.
According to the reports, five participants ensured that their presentation was within time (6mins). Three crossed with few seconds, this is permissible as they did with a maximum of 12 seconds. One was completely off bar with a 7:54 minutes video.
Furthermore, each participant was judged on 20 laid down criteria by three judges by name, Vice Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory Council, Osaretin Osadebamwen (Coordinator), Chairman of Council, Emmanuel Ogbeche and Arit Effanga of WE Fm.
Age was a major critical to the qualification of participants into the competition, participants were expected to have attained a minimum age of 16yrs and maximum of 21yrs. Based on this backdrop, the first Entrant, Adelana Esther who is 24 years old was disqualified from the race.
It is good to note that this competition was open to both members of the Club that comprise students of secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions and the general public from 1st November – 15th December, 2021.
Results were officially announced on 31 December, 2021, and having missed the 1st Prize of N100, 000, the winner went home with the 2nd Prize of N50, 000 while the 3rd Prize of N20, 000 was shared among the second runner up and the third runner up respectively. Consolation prizes were given to creative participants.
Other winners included, Omoalu Judith who garnered the blue colour and scored 65.8% as first runner – up, recording three transitions in a 6:02 minutes video and Cos-Lewisa Osigbemhe, whose aggregated percentile stood at 64.6% as the second runner – up defined by yellow colour, in a 6:03 minutes video as shown on the score sheet.
The Club has mapped out plans during its December Retreat to make the 3rd Edition of Chief Richard Lamai Competition a blast and the best.
