As conversations around youth culture, faith, and creative expression continue to evolve, one thing remains clear: music still holds a powerful place in shaping hearts, values, and identity. For Pastor Dr. Babasola Olukoya, this reality is not just an observation but a calling.
Pastor Olukoya, the Special Assistant to the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God on Youth Affairs and Pastor in Charge of Region 65, has spent decades working closely with young people, nurturing leadership, purpose, and spiritual depth. With a background that blends ministry, professional excellence, and youth mentorship, his approach to leadership is both structured and deeply spiritual.

This passion for youth development and godly expression gave birth to the Mega Music Festival, a large scale gospel music gathering designed to engage young people through worship, creativity, and fellowship. In this interview, Engineer Olukoya speaks on the vision behind the festival, the logistics, the spiritual motivation driving it, and his message to the youth.

Q: As the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Youth Affairs, why did you organise the Mega Music Festival, and what motivates you, sir?

Thank you very much. The vision behind organising the Mega Music Festival is deeply rooted in our passion for raising a generation of young people who are spiritually vibrant, purpose-driven, and positively expressive in their worship and lifestyle.

Music has always been a powerful tool that connects hearts, shapes culture, and communicates values across generations. In today’s world, young people are greatly influenced by what they listen to and celebrate. As the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Youth Affairs, I strongly believe that if we can provide a godly, inspiring, and spiritually uplifting platform for youths to express themselves through music, we can redirect energy, talent, and creativity toward kingdom advancement and godly living.

The Mega Music Festival was organised to achieve several key goals. First, it serves as an avenue to showcase and nurture the incredible musical talents God has deposited in our youth. Many young people carry divine gifts that only need the right platform and mentorship to flourish.

Secondly, it creates an atmosphere of intense worship and praise where young people can encounter God in a unique and life-transforming way. Throughout scripture, music has always been instrumental in ushering people into God’s presence, breaking spiritual barriers, and igniting revival.

Thirdly, the festival promotes unity and fellowship among youths across different parishes, regions, and even nations. It helps them see themselves as part of a larger kingdom family with a shared mission and purpose.
What motivates me personally is the strong conviction that the future of the Church and society rests largely on the strength, spiritual depth, and moral soundness of our youth. When young people are positively engaged and spiritually grounded, they become powerful instruments in God’s hands to influence their generation.

Ultimately, the Mega Music Festival is not just about entertainment. It is about spiritual empowerment, talent development, cultural transformation, and raising end-time kingdom ambassadors through the ministry of music.

Q: Where are you obtaining support for such a large scale Mega Music Festival?

Organising an event of this magnitude requires strong collaboration, strategic partnerships, and collective commitment, and we are grateful to God for the diverse support system that has made the Mega Music Festival possible.

First and foremost, our greatest support comes from divine direction and the backing of the leadership of the Church, particularly the vision and encouragement of the General Overseer and the RCCG leadership structure.

Their spiritual covering, guidance, and endorsement provide the foundational strength for initiatives like this.

We have also received tremendous support from various church departments, youth coordinators, provincial and parish leadership, as well as dedicated volunteers who have committed their time, skills, and resources to the success of the festival. The unity and teamwork across different levels of the ministry have been remarkable.

In addition, we are privileged to have partners, sponsors, and well-meaning individuals who believe strongly in youth development, kingdom advancement, and positive societal impact. The youths themselves have also played a major role through their enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to serve.

Above all, we rely heavily on prayers and spiritual support from the body of Christ. We believe that every successful kingdom assignment is sustained not just by physical resources but by divine grace.

Q: Why choose Eagle Square as the venue for the festival?

The choice of Eagle Square was very intentional and symbolic. It is a national landmark known for hosting significant gatherings, and it reflects both the scale of the vision and the impact we trust God to achieve through this festival.

Eagle Square provides the capacity required to accommodate the large number of youths, music ministers, and worshippers expected to attend. The festival is designed to be inclusive, and the venue allows thousands of people to gather safely and comfortably.

There is also strong symbolism attached to the eagle, which represents strength, vision, elevation, and renewal. This aligns with our goal of raising young people who will soar spiritually and purposefully. Scripture reminds us that those who wait on the Lord shall mount up with wings as eagles.

The venue is centrally located and easily accessible, making it convenient for participants coming from different parts of the city and beyond. Hosting a gospel centred youth music festival in such a prominent national space also sends a strong message about the role of faith, worship, and positive youth engagement in shaping society.

Q: We understand that the Mega Music Festival will host about 50,000 worshippers. How many gospel artists are expected to perform?

We are expecting a rich and diverse lineup of gospel music ministers. While the final number reflects careful planning and scheduling, the festival will host several anointed and outstanding gospel artists alongside emerging youth music ministers and mass choirs.

Our goal is not just to assemble popular names but to create a balanced platform that features seasoned ministers and rising talents. This aligns with our vision of mentorship, talent development, and generational continuity in gospel music.

Each artist has been prayerfully selected based on spiritual depth, ministry impact, and the ability to inspire young people toward genuine worship and godly living. Attendees should expect a powerful blend of diverse gospel expressions that will create a memorable and life transforming atmosphere.

Q: What challenges do you anticipate regarding logistics for worshippers and guest artists?

For an event of this scale, it is natural to anticipate logistical challenges, and we have been intentional about planning ahead.

One major area is crowd management. Hosting thousands of worshippers requires well structured entry and exit plans, proper coordination, and safety measures. About 150 CNG buses have been provided to support transportation accessibility.

Technical and production logistics are also critical. High quality sound systems, lighting, stage design, and reliable power supply are essential to ensure that worship flows smoothly. We are working with experienced technical teams to deliver excellence.

Artiste coordination, security, medical response, and overall safety are top priorities. We are collaborating with relevant agencies and professional teams to ensure a secure environment for everyone present.

Above all, while we put strong systems in place, we also recognise the importance of spiritual preparation through prayer and intercession.

Q: Sir, are you not overwhelmed by your new role as Special Assistant to the General Overseer and Pastor in Charge of Region 65?

Thank you very much for your concern. Every new assignment comes with greater responsibility, but I see it as a privilege and a call to service rather than a burden. Over the past five months in this assignment, I give all the glory to God.

I am grateful to God, Daddy and Mummy G.O., my wife, family, and the leadership of RCCG for the trust placed in me. I believe strongly that when God gives an assignment, He also releases the grace to fulfil it.

I am not carrying these responsibilities alone. I am blessed with a strong support system of pastors, leaders, and youth workers who share the same vision. Effective leadership also involves prioritisation, delegation, and staying spiritually grounded.

Rather than feeling overwhelmed, I feel inspired by the opportunity to impact lives, especially among young people. Seeing lives transformed brings deep fulfilment.

Q: What message would you like to share with the youth?

My message to the youth is simple and important. You are not the leaders of tomorrow; you are leaders of today. God has deposited greatness inside you for a purpose.

This is the season to discover who you are in God, develop your gifts, and commit to a life of purpose, discipline, and godly character. Many people God used in scripture began young, and age has never been a limitation where purpose is concerned.

I encourage young people to develop themselves spiritually, intellectually, and socially, while guarding their values and character. Talent may open doors, but character sustains greatness.

Use your voice, creativity, and energy to glorify God and positively influence society. You are carriers of revival, agents of transformation, and ambassadors of hope to your generation. A new dimension awaits you in Jesus’ name.
