Creative education is when students are able to use imagination and critical thinking to create new and meaningful forms of ideas where they can take risks, be independent and flexible. Instead of being taught to reiterate what was learnt, students learn to develop their ability to find various solutions to a problem confronting them.
In view of the above, The Authors in School Creative Club was jointly founded by Amb. Lois Otse Adams and Rev. Fr. Reginald Adogamhe on July 18, 2018, to nurture young minds, and it is geared towards showcasing God-given talents like writing, public speaking, dancing, drawing, painting, stage performance, editing, debating, singing etc amongst our students.
The club which has full Membership, Associate Membership and Affiliate Membership have branches in both Secondary and Tertiary educational institutions upon the establishment, and created 9 schools, after one year and during its maiden Convention, it spreads out to other schools, both public, private and missionary.
The National Body was also established during the maiden Annual Convention with the pioneer secondary school graduands and a full fledged Executive.
Various branches were established in various Tertiary Institutions; University of Benin, Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo University Uzairue, University of Port Harcourt, Kogi State University, University of Benin, University of Abuja while more branches are springing up in other states.
The club’s cardinal agenda and or goal is to synergize intelligence and creativity of students towards enhancing the standard of the individual and the society, hence, therefore, its vision is to develop equitable and reliable personality in every student, as well as promoting greater number of self-reliant individuals in the society.
The Club, both national and school chapter executives and members have worked cohesively as a team for effective work flow and members are nurtured to avoid plagiarism, to be reputable researchers and to be sensitive to references if the need arise, this has attracted the Bayelsa State Government to partner with its Founders.
The Club engages students during School Tour which holds biannually, and the Second Phase of the 2021 tour took place between 22nd to 25th November, 2021.
School tour is an event in which schoolchildren journey to a separate location to their normal learning environment under the authority of the staff of their school and with the purpose of learning by experience. It is indeed a very important aspect of education.
Commencing the exercise, the representatives from the Club’ Executive conducted election which brought in new secondary school executives.
The second day of the exercise was held in the host School, Sacred Heart College, where registration forms for new members were given for documentation.
Next school visited was Army Day Secondary School where new executives were nominated and materials were given. The last school on the second day was Immaculate Minor Seminary, elections were carried out, and new executive emerged.
Other Schools were Oghe Secondary School, both Senior and Junior where new executives emerged and the final day was Progress Group of Schools where the Club was formally established and new executives emerged. The last school visited in the exercise was Igiode Secondary School, where all materials and documents were delivered.
Other schools have been selected and scheduled to be visited in the 1st Phase of 2022 School Tour.
WhatsApp groups have been created for the coordinating and Literature teachers, while new members join the general platform, secondary school executives were connected in another group WhatsApp for better work flow.
Education remains the bedrock of any society, and we must strive assiduously towards achieving a sustainable educational growth in Nigeria, using more techniques that are in line with global standards.
Together, We Can!
