Today always reminds me of the effort the immediate past Honourable Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, CON, invested in cleaning up the capital city of the heartbeat of Nigeria, Edo State, when he was the Honourable Commissioner of Environment under the administration of His Excellency, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Following my passion for promoting impactful projects done by the state, I explored my weekly lifestyle and culture column at the state-owned Nigerian Observer Newspaper to discuss the purpose of today, especially the Commissioner’s beautification work in Benin City and its environs.
On June 5th, the world celebrates World Environment Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting our planet. This year’s theme is “Ecosystem Restoration,” highlighting the need to repair the damage that has been done to our natural world.
Human activity has had a devastating impact on the environment. We have polluted the air and water, destroyed forests, and overfished the oceans. As a result, we are witnessing a loss of biodiversity, climate change, and other environmental problems.
The good news is that it is not too late to take action. We can all do our part to protect the environment by making small changes in our daily lives. We can recycle, reduce our energy consumption, and eat less meat. We can also support businesses that are committed to sustainability.
By taking action, we can help restore the balance of our ecosystems and create a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.
Some specific things that we can do to help restore the global ecological balance include:
Reduce our consumption of natural resources: We can do this by recycling, reusing, and conserving energy.
Protect our forests: Forests are important for a number of reasons, including providing clean air and water and preventing soil erosion. We can help protect forests by buying sustainable products and supporting organizations that are working to conserve forests.
Reduce our carbon footprint: We can do this by driving less, using public transportation, and walking or biking whenever possible.
Support sustainable businesses: There are many businesses that are committed to sustainability. We can support these businesses by shopping with them and investing in their products and services.
By taking these steps, we can help restore the global ecological balance and create a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.
HAPPY WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY!
