The Nigeria Open Government Partnership (OGP)’s National Coordinator, Dr. Gloria Ahmed, has disclosed that the Third National Action Plan (NAP III) implementation of OGP would commence soon.
She disclosed this when she led a Team from the OGP Secretariat on an advocacy visit to the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, (NUPRC).
At the meeting which was held at the Commission’s head office in Jabi Abuja on 21st February, 2023, Ahmed informed the host that the purpose of the visit was to intimate the NUPRC on their role in the implementation of the NAP III.

She gave a brief on the OGP as a multi-lateral and multi-stakeholder initiative that brings government and civil society organisations together to work towards entrenching transparency, accountability and good governance.
She informed the meeting that President Muhammadu Buhari signed Nigeria into the OGP in 2016 as the 70th member country and that back at home, 25 States have signed up to the OGP in Nigeria.
She added that Nigeria OGP had so far co-creatively formulated and implemented two ambitious Action Plans and is about to commence implementation of the third one.
She informed the NUPRC that they will be leading the implementation of Commitment 4 in the Extractive Transparency thematic area, while supporting the implementation of Commitment 5 which is to be led by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, in the same thematic area.
Reacting, the Commission’s Chief Executive, Engineer Gbenga Komolafe, represented by the Commission’s Secretary/Legal Adviser, Barrister Olayemi Anyanechi, commended the OGP on the NAP III document, stating that the Commission would familiarise itself with the document, especially the commitments they have roles in, and work with OGP Nigeria in the implementation process.
Komolafe stated that transparency is gradually becoming a legal requirement in the extractive sector and as such, they were at home with OGP principles.
He added that the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA has mandated certain steps to be taken in the operations of actors in the industry that ensures transparency.
