The Nigerian Union of Journalists, Abuja Council, under the leadership of Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche, has honoured former Imo State Governor and a serving Senator, Owele Rochas Anayo Okorocha with an award of ‘icon of service and philanthropy’ on Monday 20th September, 2021 at the NUJ Secretariat.
The Chairman congratulated Senator Okorocha on his 59th birthday, saying the union chose to honour him specially because his life has been defined by service and philanthropy.
The event that featured a conversation which cuts across Politics, religion, and philanthropism, was the height of the event as journalists threw several questions to clear the air.
Conferring the award the Senator who has made tremendous impacts in the lives of Nigerians, thanked the union and Chairman for finding him worthy to be so honoured.
“It is in the recognition of your service to humanity, your unbridled philanthropy that we are persuaded at the FCT Council of the NUJ to honour you and to make it serve as a marker for others to do more for humanity” Chairman expressed.
Okorocha also used the occasion to give out 59 academic scholarships to the NUJ for onward disbursement to deserving children.
In return the Secretary of Council, Ochiaka Agwu thanked guests for joining the union in honouring a man who has not only impacted the less privileged, but the Nigerian Journalists and their family members.
The event was attended by Government functionaries, friends, well wishes, admirers and journalists.
