FATHER’S DAY CELEBRATION: A TIME TO RECOGNISE MEN OF VALUE

By Lois Otse Adams

Father’s Day is a Special Day set aside to celebrate fathers, especially those fathers who in spite of difficulties faced in the family and life generally, still stuck out their neck to carter for their own and others.

Various categories of children celebrate their fathers, starting from the female, who is excited to appreciate her father for nurturing her from when she was a young girl, bearing the burden of her schooling and for bringing her up to become a responsible woman that she is today.

The male on his part, celebrates his father for instilling both physical and spiritual greatness in him to raise a responsible family, while Children and young adults celebrate their fathers for buying them gifts and being there for them.

Fatherhood goes beyond having a biological child, as one can have a biological child and not be recognised on this great day set aside to celebrate the heros of our families.

While some have bagged the title of a father without having a biological child, but being responsible for a child’s wellbeing, others have been widely celebrated for being a father of all, as those who refused to instill greatness and values in their children go empty and feel complexed on this day.

I therefore use this medium to celebrate my dear father, Dr. Omokhogie Adamu. Even in death, he remains my father and hero. I specially celebrate him today because although he did not leave cash in his account for me, but he left a more tangible possession than cash in my life, which is ‘value’.

Value, that no man can drag off me, value that is taking me to places, virtues when displayed on a daily basis take me several steps ahead of my contemporaries. I ask, what else can a father leave for his child that is more than those blessings of values and virtues? Nothing, not money, not property and not pride but the goodness of life.

I also cease this opportunity to celebrate one Special father, the Honourable Minister for State, Finance, Budget and National Planning, for being an exemplary leader and father figure. Thank you for all the ways you go above and beyond every day for the people you care about.

If you are counted amongst fathers continue to be a father to those who look up to you, your child/children, family and society, for you are being specially celebrated today.

You have a biological child and you chose to be a rebel or stranger to that child? Well, do not feel inferior, as it is not too late to make a U-turn.

Turn to your child today, accept your fatherhood responsibilities and join the train of celebrated fathers worldwide, for it is a good thing to be celebrated.

Today, with so much joy in my heart as a child raised by not only a father but a good and outstanding father, I say thank you to all fathers and wish you a happy Father’s Day Celebrations.
