Since the dawn of time, women have navigated complex domestic roles, facing countless challenges. While some have triumphed over adversity, others have fallen victim to circumstance. Today, women continue to confront numerous hurdles, including societal, religious, cultural, and traditional norms, as well as discrimination in various forms.
Despite these obstacles, many women have sought empowerment through education, striving to uplift and celebrate womanhood. This pursuit has led to a profound discovery: the realization of their inherent strengths and untapped potential.
Here comes another time for women, globally, to celebrate International Women’s Day. Meanwhile, in Edo State, Her Excellency, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Edo State, Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani is honoring the contributions of women in various communities while creating opportunities for connection and reflection on the progress made towards gender equality globally. This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ encourages collective efforts to drive meaningful change and build a more equitable world.

As the Coordinating First Lady, Mrs. Anani has worked tirelessly to empower women through digital literacy, entrepreneurship, education, and gender-based violence support initiatives. She has also given strength to female advocates driving good causes in various areas, including women’s participation in politics and young women’s mentorship.

To commemorate International Women’s Day, Her Excellency has hosted community-based organizations, providing opportunities for women to connect, unwind, and enjoy the day that is fast approaching. Development partners and civil society organizations have been inspired by Anani’s leadership to hold life-changing events, making March 8th the grand finale with various activities across the state.

This year’s anniversary of International Women’s Day has given Anani the opportunity to explore the inner strength of women, lending moral support to healthy initiatives. Her goal is to fight for the liberation of every woman, encouraging financial literacy and independence. She has urged everyone, especially Edo women, to join in and support this global day of recognition and action.
