On August 29, 2022, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, celebrated an exceptional public servant, following the Thomas Sankara Leadership Prize for Excellence Award conferred on its Director and the National Coordinator of the Open Government Partnership, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Kudirat Ahmed by the Youth Leadership for Africa’s Development.
While the event spurred some young staff at both Federal and State Civil Service to wake up to their responsibilities, others were inspired to work smarter in order to attain greatness, excellence, impactful leadership and recognition in service by taking up the challenges of leadership.
The indefatigable, intelligent and a rare Gem, Princess Gloria Ahmed, an outstanding public servant of international repute did not only distinguish herself through her immense contributions to both Community and the Nigerian Civil Service to earn the conferment of the Thomas Sankara Leadership Prize as the Pan-African Amazon of Public Service Renaissance which affirms her integrity and transparency but her educational track records also speak volume of her determination.
Gloria Ahmed was born on Monday 7th September 1970, into the royal family of late Ahmed Tsoho, District head of kumin Tagwaye and Madakin Mads, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa state. Her father, late Col. Yusuf. A. Ahmed, was a soldier and her mother, Mrs. Helen.M. Ahmed a retired public servant.
The thoroughbred Nigerian and young Gloria started her education with Chapel Nursery School, Illorin in 1973, she proceeded to Army Children Primary School, Yaba, Lagos in 1976 and completed her education at Army Children School in Benin City, Edo State in 1982. She commenced her Secondary education at Idia College, Benin City in 1982 and finished at St. Anne Secondary School, Otukpo in 1987. The change in schools were due to her military father’s official transfers from one army formation to another in different states of the country.
Princess Gloria Ahmed proceeded to the school of basic studies, Zaria in 1987, later to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1988 and graduated in 1991 with Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Degree in Geography. She has a post graduate diploma in management (PGDM) and masters of business administration degree (MBA) both from the university of calabar in 2004 and 2006 respectively.
She also has masters degree in development studies, from the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy, kaduna State in 2014 and an Honorary Doctorate Degree in humanities and philanthropic services from the great achievers university, USA in 2019, in recognition of her benevolence and selfless service to humanity.
Dr. Gloria Ahmed is a seasoned administrator and a management consultant and she is the present Director, Special Duties, federal ministry of finance, budget and national planning which doubles as the secretariat of national economic council (NEC), comprising of the Vice President as chairman and 36 Governors in Nigeria as members, including some cabinet members.
She is also the chairman, public participatory budget advisory group, implementing the fiscal openness accelerator project (FOA) in Nigeria with support from the global initiative for Fiscal Transparency (GIFT) and international budget partners (IBP)
She served as member, Board of Trustees, human rights commission, Abuja; actively involved in youth and community development at the grassroot level, where she held other enviable positions like, national vice president of the Mada Development Association (youth wing), Director of Socials, Amhadu Bello University Alumni Association, Abuja Branch, amongst others.
Highly principled but simple and sociable princess Gloria Ahmed has travelled far and wide and has made friends all over the world.
Her hobbies include: cooking, singing, dancing, sewing, writing, making friends, planning and organising events which she does with passion evident by the way she coordinates the organisation and implementation of the annual joint planning board (JPB) and national council on development planning (NCDP) meetings of stakeholders in budget and development planning in the country, chaired by the vice president, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Princess Gloria Ahmed is a life coach/motivational speaker, a gospel Artist, an author and Minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She is the founder of the Princess Gloria Ahmed Foundation for Hope, which organizes community development activities, medical outreaches, sensitisation programmes against Drug Abuse, empowerment programmes for widows and orphans and other less privileged persons in the society and her community in particular.
She plays host to the annual kurmin Tagwaye Children’s End of Year party for Orphans, widows and the aged and she is blessed with a beautiful family.
Truly, her desires to achieving goals, ability to attain greater feats and her exceptional disposition earned her encomiums from both the Honourable Minister of State, Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba who happens to be her Boss, her counterparts, colleagues and friends during the birthday bash held at the Budget and National Planning Building.
