The Ambassador of People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun has donated educational items as well as scholarship and funds to pupils and teachers of China – Assisted Model Primary School, Nyanya, Abuja.
In his welcome speech, the Diplomat who paid a courtesy visit to the school on December 10th, 2021 in Abuja, maintained that China has overtime established cordial relationship with Nigeria as friendship is what has given the country’s representatives opportunity to visit the school with instructive and athletic materials which he hopes will be of help to teachers in their teaching and students in their studies.
“On this occasion there is one word I want to focus on, that is friendship, it is friendship that brings China and Nigeria together, become close all weather friends and support each other at any time in all fields; it is friendship that makes the Chinese Government try its best to make contributions to Nigerian Schools; it is also friendship that always reminds the Chinese Embassy to take the development of Nigerian Schools into its consideration. It is this friendship that gives me opportunity to visit this school, present ‘the October 1 Award of China-Nigeria Friendship’ to our excellent students and donate ping-pang tables, school bags, stationery and books to this Model Primary School. He added.”
While maintaining that great effort has been made to assure China schools in Nigeria get good infrastructural and educational development, Jianchun revealed that in the past, Chinese Companies in Nigeria built new classrooms for schools, renovated old structures and donated computers, power generators amidst other urgent needs in Nigerian schools.
On the other hand, the head teacher, China Assisted Model Primary School, Jummai Haruna, appreciated the Chinese Government for supporting Nigeria’s dream of improving the standard of education in the country through its school.
Haruna, who revealed that the school population has increased significantly from 85 to 467 in the space of ten years, assured the ambassador that the school standards has so far remained qualitative and top notch.
Also, the scholarship and fund awardees, which included 50 pupils who were selected, based on their general performance in school, and 20 teachers respectively, extended heartfelt appreciation to the diplomats for their kind gesture.
