The greatest gift of man is fulfilment and in history, they are those who lived purposeful lifestyles and became the most cherished the world reckon with.

The International Day of Charity seeks to promote and recognize charity and its role in easing humanitarian crises and suffering in the world.

The day also serves to recognize the work of charitable organizations and individuals around the globe whose philanthropic actions have contributed to the creation of more inclusive and resilient societies.

The International Day of Charity was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in an effort to mobilize the world to help others. The day is celebrated every year on September 5th, the anniversary of the death of Mother Theresa of Calcutta, one of the most philanthropic individuals of our time. Mother Theresa passed away in 1997 at the age of 87 after a lifetime of charitable work with the sick and dying in India.

Today is set aside to celebrate those who have genuinely given strength to the disadvantaged, it is a reminder that charity is not just in the act of alms giving or donation of money and material things but, the power and strength given to a person, people or community to stand on their own feet and be independent.

It an act to sacrifice  resources like time and money to the most vulnerable in society and helps ensure that peoples’ human rights and needs are met without expecting anything in return. A selfless giving, organizations built on this belief are non-profits, which means they do not benefit financially from donations intended for the causes they serve.

Before today was set aside to celebrate Charity, charities have existed for hundreds of years in various forms.

In our present times, one can find charities for countless causes focusing on health, caring, culture, education, the environment, jobs, and more.

Charities are Impactful, subsequent small donations can change an entire community whose people care and seen as essential. It is those small donations that add up towards development. The power of community is the ability to come together and care for each other, to ensure positive change. This also inspires young people around the world and encourages more participation in charities.

Research shows that modeling the value of generosity and selflessness to children makes it more likely they will continue to give as adults. Because generosity for its own sake creates a more compassionate and community-focused world. This creates lasting change and a legacy of kindness.

Countless charities focus on sustainability and helping communities become more self-sufficient. Some charities focus on the needs of women and girls, education access, better job opportunities, and healthcare services and they all contribute to closing the world’s gender gap. Charitable organizations also are very effective at reducing poverty, insecurity, corruption, etc.

Every being is a product of or supporter of one charity or the other. Today, while I celebrate those who have impacted various communities with their charities, I remember those who died doing charity jobs.

I have the privilege to enjoy various charities, directly by generous friendships and indirectly by my charity jobs, and engaging in several jobs at various communities, I have attracted endearing collaborations with generous and charitable networkers.

Charity is fulfilment, in the sense that it benefits donors by enjoying intangible benefits. Understand the fact that there is an unlimited joy  in helping others create feelings of peace, pride, and purpose. These feelings translate into a more fulfilled life. When people experience this positivity, they are more likely to continue giving and participating in other ways, as well.

The world is a better place when people have a purpose. Some purposes are fulfilled when governments are held accountable for violating human rights and aiding corruption.
