The unveiling of afemai carnival mascot took place yesterday at the Immaculate Suite and Hotel, Wuse 2, Abuja.
The event which mark the dream of promoting the bond shared between Afemais was a glamorous one. It was graced by Afemais living in Abuja, Lagos, Benin, Auchi and friends of Afemai were also present at the event.
Afemai is the traditional name that unite the people regardless of political, ethnic and tribal differences. Hence, the only thing that Afemai son, daughter or friends can do is to maintain this unity through programmes and events that is culturally rich and dependable. This is the idea behind the Convener’s dream of holding the carnival and involving all afemais.
In her word, “You can never see an afemai son or daughter who claims to be here or there, what you hear them say is my brother and my sister, that is a symbol of unity, this spured me to take a bold steps to promote this love we share two years after I had the dream. I want to appreciate everyone present and those who have made out time to promote our own, it is a sign that the love, peace and unity we share is growing stronger,” she said.
Guests expressed their joy and promised to support the upcoming carnival and subsequent editions. Some vowed to showcase and promote the idea to the larger society and to make Afemai carnival enviable as well as to compete with other international carnivals.
The Dinner did not only witness the support of the guests by speech, they finely supported through donations towards the planning process. Personalities from all works of life were present at the event.
“This dinner is a success, you can see guests are interested and passionate about making the carnival a world class,” a calabar queen expressed during an interview session with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Guests who were unable to grace the event sent their full support towards ensuring that the Carnival is a success. They entrust their full support and pledged to be present at the Carnival event.
The Dinner witnessed a good turn up as varieties of afemais cuisines were served with traditional music. The ushers and protocols were dressed in the carnival attire and every guest was in carnival mood. It was indeed a success as organizers set to unveil carnival with people living in other major cities nationwide in preparations for the December 26th Afemai Carnival in Auchi, Edo State.
