The Nigerian Ambassador to Hungary, His Excellency, Ambassador Abass Braimah, on 30th June, 2026, brainstormed with the management team of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), with a view to deepening non oil export trade between both countries, and the other concurrent nations under his charge, including Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Slovenia.
Accompanied by the Edo State Commissioner for Business, Trade and Industry, Hon. Omoh Anabor, the Ambassador stated that they intend to use Edo as a pilot state, to aggressively drive export trade in agricultural products such as cashew, cassava, yam and other agro products to Hungary and the other Central European countries. On hand to receive them was the Chief Executive Director of the NEPC, Mrs. Nonye Ayeni and other Directors of the Council.
Ambassador Braimah disclosed his determination to leverage on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘4D’ economic diplomacy policy in the discharge of his duties and responsibilities as envoy.
“My mission here is to find out all those products that we have comparative advantage in, and we intend to start from my home state, Edo, then we move to other parts of the country. The plan is to harness them and export to countries under my jurisdiction so we can earn foreign exchange and help boost the economy of the country and that of Edo State in particular.
“Nigeria is open for business, and we are aggressively shifting our economic focus. We are moving beyond traditional trade to unlock the vast potential of our non-oil sectors. From our booming agricultural produce, such as sesame, cashew, and cocoa, to our globally celebrated creative arts and technology ecosystems, Nigeria has what the Hungarian and Central European markets need.
“I therefore remain intent on transforming our diplomatic ties into tangible prosperity, creating jobs, empowering our local communities, and joining hands in building a resilient, diversified economy.
“President Tinubu’s economic diplomacy is driven by his “4D” doctrine of Democracy, Demography, Development, and Diaspora, aggressively positioning Nigeria as “open for business”, he stated, noting that the core thrust focuses on attracting Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs), securing infrastructure funding, and boosting non-oil exports to directly support domestic job creation and industrialization.”
He further added that in furtherance of the administration’s foreign policy direction, he will actively court Nigerians in his areas of primary assignment, as essential partners for investment, technology transfer, and improving the nation’s global reputation.
The NEPC boss, Nonye Ayeni assured the visitors of the Council’s readiness to be of support in actualizing the objectives of the Ambassador and his team, adding that as an agency of the Federal Government under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, established to promote, develop, and diversify the country’s non-oil export base.
