It was a glamorous affair as the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Chris Isiguzo , MFR was treated to a surprise birthday ceremony by friends, families, colleagues, and well-wishers, in Abuja 31st January, 2023.
The event was graced by several notable personalities, including the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu.
The opening prayer ushered in the business of the day as many notable attendees spoke on the amiable personality of the celebrant.
Okechukwu spoke on the humility of the celebrant who he had come to know for many years.
Acknowledging the celebrant as a detribalized Nigerian, he urged everyone present to imbibe a character that is accommodating irrespective of culture, religion, or tongue.
“If you say my people, my people, and you favour only your people, when you celebrate, will only your people celebrate with you?”
The VON Director General admonished all to shun nepotism, religious extremism and tribal slurs as it negates the spirit of oneness in the country.
The cutting of the cake by the celebrant was followed by the celebrant dancing along with well-wishers.
In his vote of thanks, Isiguzo, still overwhelmed with gratitude, thanked all who made his birthday a memorable one.
He had so many things to say, especially to journalists who graced his event. He advised his colleagues in the profession to write the truth at all times.
“If you know what you are about to write will foster unity, please do not hesitate to write.
Journalism is not about bitterness, anarchy, witch-hunting, but it is about nation building.”
