He was fondly called Mallam Abubakar by me, a very hardworking young man who went extra miles to assist me during Special Projects, which we both executed in Abuja, Nasarawa State and Edo State respectively.
Because of his skills, and readiness to work, Abubakar was not treated like a driver, although he drove me, he formed part of my team.
If members of my Team wore Suit, Abubakar wore that too, and if they wore native attire, he definitely wore too and blended. He did not have complex as he did better than some members.
While he was still with me, he started school at Federal Tertiary Institutions, Katsina, he was of and on, I encouraged him and he graduated after four years.
It is not in my principle to pick calls after 7:00pm, but this peculiar number called me twice, and I reluctantly picked the second time, guess who? Mallam Abubakar, reuniting after 7 years of parting ways.
I can not really recall what happened, but I am very sure I would have allowed him to focus on his school, because, even after he left, I still gave little support to his education.
We parted ways for good reasons, yes, that is evident in the call I got from him yesterday, 24th June, 2022, as he first appreciated me for all I did for him, which means we had a good parting.
He asked after every Team member, from Mathew Apeh, to Peter Oriri, to Macbeth Ojugbeli, and even my Son who was also part of the Team, and went as far as my colleagues and I was glad to tell him everyone was doing well.
With the way he sounded, I am certain he is doing great too. Well, we have reconnected, so, the purpose we met in the first place may be unfolding soon, because, Abubakar is a graduate now, and also into furniture business.
Lesson: Treat everyone well, that person you think is not upto your standard may be the Godsent at that time and you never can tell where your goodness can take you to. Someone can defend you, and your life can be saved because you were good to them.
It is not always about money or possessions, but being kind to everyone and seeing people as your brother and sister, regardless of status, tribe and religion.
