The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has strongly condemned the lackadaisical approach of security operatives towards investigating the unpleasant event surrounding the death of Vanguard reporter, Tordue Henry Salem, who was declared missing on October 13, 2021, but was reportedly found dead on November 11, 2021 allegedly in government hospital morgue where his body is said to have been deposited following a road accident on the day he went missing.

This was contained in a Communiqué signed by the Chairperson NAWOJ FCT, Comrade Anna Daniel and issued by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, at the end of its monthly Congress Held on November 20, 2021, at the NUJ Secretariat Utako, Abuja.

The Association called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, to order thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the demise of the late journalist as well as ensure all those allegedly involved in his death, are brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.

Meanwhile, women journalist have decried the unbearable hike in prices of food commodities, stressing the need for a timely intervention from the Federal Government in regulating prices of foodstuff as it affects women and families negatively, thereby increasing rate of poverty in the country.

They further lamented the high rate of inflation in the country specifically pointing out the outrageous rise in prices of essential commodities including liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) otherwise known as cooking gas, charcoal and kerosene.

NAWOJ, therefore, called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene to check the inflation as well as look into the issue of the supply of adulterated kerosene and artificial scarcity of other petroleum products by marketers in anticipation of further hike in prices.

Recall that a kerosene surface tank explosion recently rocked Kubwa Village Market in Abuja, leaving at least 5 persons dead and several others badly injured.
