It was a mouth watering evening for authors resident in Abuja as the chapter unveils N100m ($200,000) support fund for members, group life insurance and assets valuation scheme. Speaking at the monthly event held on 1st August, 2021, Taiwo Akerele the chairman of the chpater argues that intellectual capital can be quantified into monetary gains for writers and creative people in the pen profession.
He said from 2022, writers in Abuja will have opportunity to draw from the funds for publications, marketing, production and packaging of their books for greater profitability. In the same vein an insurance firm was also invited to unveil a group life insurance for the chapter members, an initiative that has been described as innovative.
The monthly meeting was characterised by poetry recitation, book reading, drama and dance. The occasion was used to remember out of school children in north Eastern Nigeria and also used to celebrate the 87 birthday ceremony of Prof Wole Soyinka and other literary activities.
The event was attended by delegation from the national library of Nigeria and other government and non government agencies.
Solidarity messages were read from the national secretariat and forum of chairmen of Authors in Nigeria.
