The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Friday, lit candles to commemorate the death of their colleague and friend late Mrs. Blessing Bolu David Adewole.

The Night of Tributes for the late journalist at the NUJ Council in Utako, Abuja had in attendance the National President of the union, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, Chairman of FCT Council, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche, President of NAWOJ, Mrs. Ladi Bala, colleagues in the profession, family, and friends.

The NUJ President, commemorated with the bereaved. He expressed his deep sadness over the irreparable loss and promised that the union would see to the well-being of the children she left behind, especially in their educational pursuit.

Ogbeche, while delivering his speech, sympathized with those affected by the loss.

He lamented that media professionals are not doing enough in building bonding relationships with their colleagues.

He said: “Many of us here are not even aware she was sick. Some find it difficult to call their colleagues to know about their well- beings. I think it is really shameful.”

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Ladi Bala, who was visibly shaking, recounted her relationship with the deceased during her internship with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

She said: “I first met Bolu when she came for her internship program in NTA. What drew me to her was her industrious character. She was always ready to work and give you her best.”

Bala further explained that the deceased attitude to work was why she was retained after her internship program.

“Even when she was ill, she still tried to be relevant.”

Also, families and friends spoke passionately about Bolu. Her eldest daughter remembered a mother who was selfless, loving and caring.

“She was a loving and caring mother, and I never knew she was going to die because mom was always looking strong.”
