Excitement and a sense of achievement filled the air as parents, guardians, staff, students, and well-wishers of Edo State University, Iyamho gathered for its 11th Matriculation Ceremony.

The event, held at the Aliko Dangote Auditorium, 26th February, 2026, brought together top officials of the institution, including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Academics), Acting Registrar, Acting Bursar, as well as Deans and Directors. The ceremony featuring the administration of the matriculation oath and the signing of the matriculation register, officially admitted the students as bona fide members of the academic community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Victor Olawale Adetimirin, in his opening speech, congratulated the newly matriculated students and expressed gratitude to parents for their trust and support. He noted that since its establishment in 2016, the institution has grown significantly from three faculties and eight programmes to nine faculties offering over thirty fully accredited undergraduate programmes approved by the National Universities Commission and other relevant professional bodies. “The university has also expanded its postgraduate school and strengthened its research capacity” the Vice Chancellor stated, highlighting the major milestone in the development of the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, and the full accreditation of its MBBS programme by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

He further extended appreciation to the Edo State Government, led by Senator Monday Okphebholo, for its continued support and investment in education. While the matriculating students were encouraged to uphold discipline, integrity, and hard work, the university reaffirmed its commitment to excellence, innovation, and global competitiveness.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Emmanuel Usoh Esq., former Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Cooperative, Edo State, and Chief Isaac Odigie Ohonsi Esq., urging students to refrain from drugs and other vices that could hinder their academic journey, and to remain focused, determined, and disciplined. They further encouraged them to allow the institution shape them not only intellectually but also in character, so they can emerge as worthy ambassadors of the university. They also commended the dedication of the Vice-Chancellor and academic staff in sustaining high standards, and wished the students a successful and rewarding academic session.
